So I’m fully aware of the irony and almost self-serving nature of Dad Bloggers writing posts about Father’s Day gifts and what have you… But at the same time, I feel that we’re probably the best people to write about it! I mean, if I’m looking for good Mother’s Day gifts, I’ll almost always look through Mummy Bloggers, but they’re the exact demographic that I’m trying to purchase a gift for! Makes sense, really, don’t you think?
And on top of that, I hear so many people (including my wife) say that men are really hard to buy for (you’re wrong, women are much more difficult to buy for). So, I figured I might as well try and give a bit of assistance!
Of course, there’s going to be a bit of biased in here, as this is a personal blog. But let’s face it, most men are the same and like the same stuff! So, with that, let’s get on with the list, shall we?
These days there’s a lot of talk about the “smart home”, and let’s be honest, guys of all ages love gadgets! They might not admit it, but believe me, they do! And at the moment, there’s one type of gadget that really stands out; the smart voice assistant!
Now, there are a number of different ones available, like Google Home for instance (which has a great advert, mind you). But my personal choice would be Alexa from Amazon. Why? To start with, the connectivity options are amazing! You can connect to your Hive or Nest system, your music system and your TV, amongst other things.
On top of that, it’s really easy to set up, as the image above shows! It also hae great voice recognition! And you can add more functionality through “skills” you can install via the Alexa app on your phone! Believe me, any guy will love to have their own Alexa!
In Car Heads Up Display
You might be asking just what on Earth a Heads Up Display (HUD) is… And that’s fair enough. In essence, it is a display of information that appears in front of you, without blocking your view… Think the life bar and ammo counter in a video game, for example. But did you know that you can now by HUDs for cars? And they’re not even that expensive, since they work with your smart phone!
Take the Mpow Universal HUD, for example; it uses the screen of your phone to reflect onto a small and transparent screen, right in front of the driver! That means no more looking down at the speedo, or wondering who is texting or calling, or having to keep glancing over at the Sat Nav! It’s all right there, in front of the windscreen!
See what I mean? Does that not look amazing? And it will make driving some much safer, too! But it’s gotta be a bit pricey, right? Well, coming it at £18 (at the time of writing), it’s actually pretty damn cheap!
So if the father in question drives a lot, this could be the best gift you could buy him!
Ok, so I’m sure you’re seeing a bit of a pattern by now… Gadgets, gadgets and more bloody gadgets, right? Where are the socks and t-shirts? Well, guys love gadgets… And that’s why they are probably your best bet when it comes to a Father’s Day gift! Especially if that gift is a smart watch!
These days everyone has a smart phone, be it an iPhone or an Android device (I prefer Android, personally). So what’s the next step? A smart watch, obviously! Especially one that can connect with your phone and let you interact with phone calls, texts and even Apple/Andoird Pay!
The one in the picture above is the Carodo Hill Android/Apple supported smart watch, which weighs in at £25 (at the time of writing) and let’s you interact with a bunch of different apps on your phone! So if the father in question has been wanting a smart watch for a while, then this is your chance to get one without forking out hundreds of pounds!
Come on, you know there would be something to do with gaming in this list, right? Well, that time has come, and I’m going with the PlayStation 4 Pro, the fully 4K compatible version of the PS4! I mean, you could just buy the standard PS4, but if you don’t have one by now, you might as well just got all in and get the PS4 Pro and a 4K TV and get the best out of the system!
You could also go for the Xbox One, but personally, I’d go with the PS4 because you can get amazing games like The Last Of Us: Remastered, Horizon: Zero Dawn and the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Remake. These aren’t available on other console!
Remote Controlled Drone
I can tell you now, every man in the world has wanted to play with a remote controlled helicopter, or even a real one, and that desire never goes away. So you can only imagine the inner joy when drones became a thing! They’re like the remote controlled helicopters, but even more fun!
The one in the picture is teh UDI U818A, which costs just £86! And with 4 otars, it can be really awesome to get in the air! Especially if the father in question needs a better way to take photos and videos from above!
In the last year or so, VR Headsets have become more and more popular! Especially since a number of them (like the Samsung Gear) are designed for smart phones, rather than high powered computers and games consoles. And this popularity has actually lead to prices being rather reasonable for ones that use the phone.
The Universal VR Headset shown above should be able to fit and work with all types of mobile devices, whether they are Android or iPhone, amongst others! The father in question is going to love been transported into the game/movie/show at the very least!
Now, this is more for those fathers out there that smoke and want to either stop or, at the very least, stop creating second hand smoke. There are, literally, hundreds of different e-cigs that you can buy… Some are cheap and I wouldn’t recommend them. Others are built with quality and safety in mind, like the Innokin Cool Fire setup.
I actually use this setup myself, and can vouch for its safety, for those of you concerned by all of the (mostly fake) horror stories. I can also tell you that e-cigs really work, as long as you get a decent kit and not the silly disposable ones from petrol stations. It’s been over 3 years since I had a “real” cigarette, and since the main chemicals in an e-cig are the same as an asthma inhaler, it’s a lot better to use a (decent) e-cig.
So if the father in question is a smoke who wants to be healthier, these are a great way to start!
And That’s All Folks
I hope this list has, at least, given you some ideas of what sort of gift you can get for Father’s Day! Are you going to buy one of these ideas, or have you already bought something? Let me know in the comments below!
