So, it was a pretty damn big night for the Xbox last night at E3 2017. There were a slew of big announcements and major news. In fact, it was hard to get your head around everything. And that’s why I’m going to go through 7 of the biggest announcements from the Xbox conference!

Xbox One X

Let’s start with the biggest of the all; the Xbox One X. This is Microsoft’s new, upgraded console. It offers native 4K resolution, has a really powerful processor to run games at 60fps consistently, and is marketed as “the most powerful console”. And that’s a pretty big statement to make.

But you know what? Based upon the specs released, they’re actually right! If those specs are the final specs of the console, it will be the most powerful console out there, by far!

However, we’ve seen specs be announced shortly before the launch of a console, but not actually be there on release, with the PS3. So I’m taking it with a pinch of salt. Plus, the £450 price tag of the Xbox One X is really high! I mean, sure, it’s more powerful than the PS4 Pro, but the difference in price is pretty steap! We’ll have to wait and see what this means upon release!

Assassin’s Creed Origins

Now here’s a video game series that seemed to completely lose its way in recent iterations… From a plethora of game breaking bugs to lackluster modern-time storylines, the Assassin’s Creed series has really been hit hard.

That looks set to change with Assassin’s Creed Origins. For the first time in a long time, I’m actually excited about a new AC game!

Set in ancient Egypt, and following the birth of the Assassin Order, the storyline could offer some very, very cool bits of lore and information, whilst also acting as a reboot of the franchise. And let’s face it, it really could do with a kick in the right direction (especially after that movie).

Plus, the graphics look amazing! And that’s coming from someone who really doesn’t care too much about graphics!

Crackdown 3

Not too much to say about this one. We all knew it was going to be an utterly amazing game, and it certainly looks like it will be. The Crackdown games have always been really fun, so I’m expecting this one to be all of that and more!

The idea of destructable terrain has become a mainstay in the action genre now, with more and more franchises picking it up. So it’s nice to see the level of sheer destruction that you can achieve within Crackdown! For example, the clip of an entire building coming down based upon your own actions was absolutely epic!

Metro Exodus

I’m a huge fan of the Metro series, both in game and book form! So, when we got to see in-game footage of the next game in the series, Metro Exodus, I was really excited! It looked fluid and smooth, with great animations! And the gunplay looks set to be a hell of a lot of fun!

The enemies seem to react to the enviroment, which is awesome, and that zipline scene was amazing! This is definitely one game that I cannot wait to play!

Lord of the Rings: Shadow of War

Another big hitter that Xbox dropped was a demo of the new Lord of the Rings game, titled Shadow of War. It showcased an Orc named Bruz the Chopper, and gave us a pretty detailed look at the recruitment process that Orcs have to go through to join the armies of Mordor!

As a huge Lord of the Rings fan, and someone who utterly adored Shadow of Mordor, I have really high hopes for this! Let’s hope it can live up to them!

Anthem

Okay, so Bioware is an amazing development studio! From bringing us the likes of Dragon Age to Mass Effect, they have churned out some of the best games in recent years (Mass Effect Andromeda not withstanding). So, when then announced Anthem at the EA Play conference for E3 2017, I was excited.

Now that we’ve seen some gameplay, I can say that, whilst still really excited, I have my reservations. It looks like Mass Effect Andromeda on steroids, or Destiny with added jetpacks.

Not to say that those ideas don’t soound like fun, but I was expecting a major reveal of something really quite unique. Although, the customisation of your mech-suits definitely intrigues me. I’ll be keeping a close eye on this one, that’s for sure!

Backwards Compatability

This is something that PlayStation fans have wanted for ages, and probably won’t be getting. So, when Microsoft announced that original Xbox games will be available on the Xbox One, it was a huge announcement!

And sure, a lot of people will be saying things like “why play the old games with their outdated graphics”…. But that’s not the point… Not at all. After all, everyone loves a bit of nostalgia, and going back to play the games you did when you were younger is a great way to get that nostalgic hit. Plus, some of those old games are just amazing in terms of gameplay and storyline.

So, now we get to relive those games on our Xbox One’s, without the need to get an emulator for the PC! That’s pretty damn awesome!

And That’s All Folks

Those are, in my opinion, the 7 biggest announcements that Xbox and Microsoft made at their E3 2017 conference. What were your favourite announcements? What do you think about the Xbox One X’s price tag? Which games are you looking forward to the most? Let me know in the comments below!
