So, this is something I never thought I would be able to say; Nintendo absolutely smashed it out of the park at E3 2017!

After what had amounted to a very lackluster conference from Sony (albiet the odd few awesome reveals), and one from Microsoft that seemed as though it had sealed victory this year, Nintendo came out like a ninja to steal the thunder for the first time in years! And whilst a lot of people may not agree, personally, I think Nintendo won E3 this year… And I really cannot believe I get to say that!

Now, yes, Xbox has their new 4K console, and Sony have God of War… But for those long-time gamers out there, Nintendo’s conference was akin to Sony’s 2015 E3 conference – dreams came true!

So, with that said, here at 7 reasons why Nintendo utterly killed it at E3 2017!

A New Yoshi Game

We’ll start with one of the least exciting of the list, which is actually pretty damn bloody exciting in itself! Back on the N64, I used to love playing Yoshi’s Island! For a Mario spin off, it was a really fun game – and really, that’s probably the most important part of a game, isn’t it? Plus, the visuals were cartoony and “cute”, making it accessible to almost anyone!

And now, there’s a whole new Yoshi game coming to the Nintendo Switch! Oh, and it certainly doesn’t seem to have lost the charm of its predecessors! The cartoon and fun graphics are there, the gameplay looks smooth, and all in all, it looks like a great little platformer!

Xenoblade Chronicles 2

Back on the PlayStation and Playstation 2 respectively, I was a huge fan of Xenogears and Xenosaga! So, when the first Xenoblade Chronicles was released, I was ecstatic! Even though it wasn’t an actual, true continuation of those games, it was the successor to them… And what a successor it was!

And here we are, at E3 2017, with Nintendo revealing the trailer to Xenoblade Chronicles 2 for the Switch! It looks amazing, and as a JRPG fan, it really had tickled my senses! I even love the anime/manga style of the graphics, animation and characters! This is going to be a truly epic game that you should really watch out for!

Zelda: Breath of the Wild DLC

When the Switch launched, a lot of people expected it to fail because of “the lack of launch titles”… They obviously didn’t count on Breath of the Wild being such an amazing game! Having a truly open world Zelda experience, running around the place as Link, was breathtaking! We all wanted more!

Well, we’re getting more, aren’t we? As the trailer above shows, we’re getting 2 DLC packs; “Master Trials” and “The Champions’ Ballad”. As with the main game, the areas are lovingly crafted, and the whole thing just looks like so much fun to play! And there’s going to be so much more to explore!

Oh, and I really love the new armour that was shown off! Especially all the throwbacks to other Zelda characters!

Rocket League Is On The Switch

For those of you who don’t know what it is, Rocket League is basically football (or soccer, for my American readers) played usin rocket powered cars! Now, even as someone who doesn’t actually like football (I’m a rugby fan), even I can admit that sounds bloody awesone! And it really is! Rocket League also has a huge fan following, and there is even an esports league for it, where you can compete to win actual money!

And now, you’ll be able to play it on the go! Well, as long as you have an internet connection…  But that’s besides the point. The fact is, Rocket League is coming to the Switch, with exclusive extras like modifications and accessories for your cars, as well as exclusive cars to begin with! I cannot wait to see how this shapes things up, and whether it brings the Switch into the competitive esports world!

Metroid Prime 4 Is Coming, And Samus Is Back

The original Metroid Prime trilogy are still considered to be the best games in the Metroid franchise. The 3D exploration elements were fine-tuned to near perfection, and the shooting mechanics and puzzles were spot on. However, since then, the Metroid franchise largely went down hill, with lackluster games that never really captured the magic of the original games nor the Prime trilogy.

All of that looks to change as we got not one, but two announcements! Firstly, Metroid Prime 4 is coming to Switch! I cannot believe I am saying that! This was, like the FF7 Remake or Shenmue 3 from Sony’s E3 2015 conference, one of those games that you just joked about! And yet, it’s happening, and it’s real!

Then, we go and get the trailer for Metroid: Samus Returns for the 3DS, and it looks sick! As a sidescroller, like the very original Metroid games, it seems to have recaptured the magic completely! I cannot wait for these to come out!

And yes, I know I cheated there, listing two… But they’re part of the same franchise!

Super Mario Odyssey

Mario was also going to take centre stage at Nintendo’s E3 conference. That was a given. He’s still their mascot, and still the most widely recognised symbol of gaming. But you know what? I was getting a bit bored of all the Mario Kart games… And I know some people will want to kill me for saying that… But I remember how awesome Mario 64 was…

Well, would you look at that! Super Mario Odyssey looks pretty damn amazing, doesn’t it? It’s weird, cooky, unique and bloody awesome! And the mechanics of the game really are intriguing – especially the whole possessing your enemies thing! This looks like a true return to form for Mario when it comes to 3D platforming, and I am drooling with anticipation for it!

There’s A Pokemon RPG Coming To Switch

Pokemon… I don’t even need to explain how big that series is, do I? I mean, it’s a phenomenon that has spanned decades! But, when it comes to Pokemon games outside of the handheld consoles like the Gameboy or DS series, we’ve not had a very good run. Pokken was an average fighting game, Pokemon Snap was horrific, and whilst Stadium was fun, it was never as good as the actual RPG games on the handhelds…

And now, we come to what I think is the biggest announcement of E3 2017! I’m sure others will disagree and say that the Xbox One X was the biggest, but seriously… There is a fully fledged Pokemon RPG coming to Switch!

That’s right, we are getting a true Pokemon game on a home console, to play on the big screen! I cannot express how absolutely bloody amazing that is! And whilst it hasn’t been confirmed to be the rumoured Pokemon Stars, the fact that it is in development is perfect! This is the announcement that, in my opinion, won E3… Because unlike the Xbox One X announcement, this one has actually made me want go out and buy a Nintendo Switch!

And That’s All Folks!

Nintendo completely destroyed it at E3 this year, and it’s about time they got back on form! But seriously, what a return to form! From Metroid to Mario to a bleeding Pokemon RPG on home consoles, Nintendo blew me away!

What do you think to their announcements? Which games would you be interested in? Who do you think won E3? Let me know in the comments below!
