Okay, so obviously I would prefer that you come here for all of your Digital Marketing needs, but let’s be realistic here… You’re not going to listen to just one person. And even if its a non-fiction book, everyone can agree that sitting in bed and reading a book can be a lot easier and more comfortable than looking at a monitor. That’s why I am working on my own Digital Marketing book. But that’ll be a while yet.

So for now, I thought I’d at least share a few other  books with you, so that you can make the most of the new year and hit the ground running! Here are 5 awesome Digital Marketing books you should read in 2017!

1. Digital Marketing (6th Edition)

Despite what some of the negative reviews say, this is actually a really good read. Its not, however, for an absolute beginner. The amount of information and content in the book is nigh-on insane, and although some bits are outdated, it’s still definitely worth the read. And I mean, come on, its hard to put something down for being a little bit outdated in places! Hell, even Text Ads on the Display Network will be outdated at the end of this month!

So take what is written with a pinch of salt, and definitely cross reference things with other sources (which you should always be doing anyway), but definitely get this in your library! Every little helps, and this book gives a lot.

2. Digital Marketing Handbook

Ok, so this one is much of an entry level, easy reading book, as the title gives away. It really is a handbook, rather than a full on textbook to study from. But the fact is, the language used is easy to understand and get your head around. If you are just getting started, or want something from new memebers of your Digital Marketing team to help get them going, this is the book for you.

There are the odd mistakes in it, but these are almost entirely down to wording or typos, which I can forgive when considering how much it can help someone just getting started. If you have some new team members, or are looking to get some, and want to have a headstart in training, then you should definitely put this on their desks!

3. SEO 2016

Again, this is a good one for newcomers, but you know what? It might be worth it for those of us who have been doing this for a while too! Why? Because SEO in particular is an ever changing environment, and you can never know everything! I’m completely willing to admit that. So, whilst you might know a lot of things, someone else is going to know a lot about other aspects of the industry.

As such, its always worth looking at the information that others have. And this book has a lot! It is informative without being pretentious, and can really help you boost your knowledge about areas of SEO you may be lacking in.

4. Digital Marketing For Dummies

You can never really go wrong with the whole “For Dummies” series of books, can you? Otherwise, they wouldn’t have been around so long. And this one is no different! The information is a great starting place for you to build your knowledge on, giving you a strong foundation to improve from. Covering various aspects of the Digital Marketing industry, it’ll help you get off to the right start!

Just, don’t read through it and think you’re a marketing guru (man, I hate that word).. I cannot stress enough that this book gives you the base knowledge that you need in order to get a good and strong start. After that, you need to read around and constantly improve your knowledge in order to continue being successful!

5. Marketing 2016

Yes, yes, I know, there are two books with 2016 in the title, even though this post in in 2017. But that’s because they’re worth it! And also because we’re only a few days into 2017, so its a bit early to recommend books from this year. But anyway, Marketing 2016 isn’t specifically a Digital Marketing book, but rather a much more general one. But that’s actually really important! Why? Strategy!

One thing you need to be able to put in place as a Digital Marketeer is a decent marketing strategy, and to do that you need to understand marketing theory itself. That’s where this book comes in. The wealth of information within it will help you come up with killer strategies for yourself or your clients. When coupled with specific Digital Marketing knowledge, this can be an awesome recipe for success!
