So, when I was searching in Google today, I noticed that the search results seemed a little different. Now, the change isn’t major, and really just a simple CSS design change, but it is interesting that Google are playing around with the styling of their search results. Just take a look at the following image to see what I mean!

As you can see, the results now look like title cards on social networks or mobile devices. And it wasn’t just related to search for cheese either. That was just the first thing that came to my head when getting a screenshot (I love cheese). When search for “That Marketing Punk” or even Digital Marketing, the same styling appeared.

Interestingly, though, this only happened when search in cognito. When logged into the browser, the search results appeared compeletely normal, as you see below.

Now I use in cognito mode on a daily basis to manually track rankings, but I’ve never come across this design before. Could this be a sign of the move to mobile-first? It’s the same design that Google used on mobile devices, after all…
