In Review: Venom Gaming Quad Charging Station For The Nintendo Switch

It’s been a little while since I’ve actually taken someone, broken it down and reviewed it, hasn’t it? But that time has come again!

Now, as you may know, I finally got my hands on the Nintendo Switch a couple of months back. Since then, it has quickly become my favourite console of the current generation (which you can read about here). This comes from the games and the hardware.

Part of this love for the Switch comes from the portable nature of it – it is a brilliant addition to the console for a parent. However, the fact that you can only charge one pair of Joycons at a time with the base unit does leave a bit of a gap. That said, Venom Gaming have a neat little accessory for the Nintendo Switch that is supposed to help with that; the Quad Charging Station.

So, let’s take a look at the Quad Charging Station and see if it is worth getting, shall we?

The first aspect of the Venom Gaming Quad Charging Station that we’re going to look at is its usability. This, of course, is an aspect of that changes wildly depending on the item in question.

In regards to the Quad Charging Station, this refers to two specific things;

  • Is it built well?
  • Is it portable?

As a parent to a young child, it is really important that the build quality of anything I get my hands on is of a high quality. It needs to be able to withstand the full force of a child’s curiosity.

The Quad Charging Station is built from plastic and doesn’t attempt to hide that. However, it doesn’t feel like it’s made from cheap plastic at all. It feels sturdy and durable, which is a huge positive in my books. There’s even that delightful click that the Switch is known for when you slot your Joycons into it.

It’s also really lightweight, despite being so durable (and my daughter has tested the durability already). This means that this particular charging station is really easy to carry around with you.

Sure, it’s too bulky to fit in your pocket, but it can be moved around with ease. So I would say that the Quad Charging Station ticks the right boxes when it comes to usability.

The effectiveness of a charger really means whether it is actually able to charge the item it is designed for. So, in that sense, the Quad Charging Station meets the criteria. However, there’s a bit more to unpack from that.

As I said earlier; being able to only charge one pair of Joycons at a time can be rather frustrating… So, with the Quad Charging Station being able to charge twice as many, it becomes a wonderful tool to have around. You can play on the Switch with one set of Joycons whilst your other pairs are getting charged.

They also charge rather quickly too.

This is also where the portability of the charging station comes into play again, too. Because it uses a USB-C cable to connect to a power source, you can plug it in pretty much anywhere! If you want to charge your Joycons in the car, at a table in IKEA or in your office, you can. As long as there is a USB port or a USB to mains adaptor, you’re all set to go.

So tick that off as another win for the Venom Gaming Quad Charging Station!

The final aspect of the Quad Charging Station that we need to look at is the cost. After all, that’s generally one of the key deciding factors for me whenever I purchase something. As a parent, I need to be sure that I am getting value for money from something, since that money could go to a toy or something for my daughter.

With that in mind, along with the successes for Usability and Effectiveness, it might come as a surprise to you that Amazon UK sells the charging station for just £13.99! That’s nothing.

In fact, the cost is so affordable that I can’t help but wonder why I didn’t get one of these sooner. Between the cost, usability and effectiveness of the Quad Charging Station, you definitely get that value for money that is so important to me.

And That’s All Folks

All in all, I’m really impressed with the Quad Charging Station. It’s affordable and yet gives a great performance as a portable charger for two pairs of Joycons.

Since opening up the box, the charging station has been a staple of my gaming room, allowing me to ensure that I can always play Breath of the Wild or any other Nintendo Switch game without the worry of my Joycons running out of battery.

So, if you’re looking for a charging solution and need it to work really well and be portable, then Vemon Gaming’s Quad Charging Station is a great answer.
