League of Legends is a game I’ve covered quite a bit on this blog recently, but there’s one thing I’ve not really covered properly; what is the objective of League of Legends? After all, it’s important to know what to do when playing a competitive online game, especially one that is so big in the eSports scene.
So, let’s take a brief look at what the objective of League of Legends actually is, shall we?
A Quick Introduction
So, League of Legends is a MOBA game, which stands for Massive Online Battle Arena. That genre name, by itself, should explain what the main objective of the game is for a player; you need to win the arena match that you are in.
But winning is an obvious objective, isn’t it? So, what else could you need to be doing when you’re in a match on League of Legends? Well, that’s the real question. Let’s take a look.
An Objective Role
So, your objective in each individual match depends large the role that the character you have chosen is designed to do. I’ve covered roles in League of Legends before, which you can read here, but they play a major part in dictating what you need to be striving for when playing a match.
Here’s a breakdown overview of what each role’s objectives are;
- Tank/Bruiser – Your objective is to perform crowd control, making sure other players are focused on you, not on your team members.
- APC – Your objective is to do as much damage as you possibly can to the enemy players, keeping them from progressing forward and helping your team to earn the victory.
- Support/ADC – Similar in a sense to the APC, you’re objective is to take out the enemy, but you need to be speedy as you’re basically a glass cannon (you do a good amount of damage but die really quickly).
- Jungler – Your objective is to move between all of the camps and get as much XP as possible for your team, spurring them on towards victory.
Now I know that’s a really top level overview, and each role has a lot more to them, but honestly, I’m still getting my head around everything. Those are just your main objectives overall, but each role has a variety of smaller objectives to carry out on a minute by minute basis.
And That’s All Folks
Those were the base objectives for each character role that you can play within League of Legends. There are, as I said, more mini objectives that you will need to figure out, but those are best learned through practice and actually playing the game. I mean, it is free to play, so you might as well, right?
The game features a lot to learn, and it will definitely take a long time to get anywhere near the level of eSports players, but at least you’ll now have a top level understanding of what your chosen character’s main objective actually is.
