When it comes to playing League of Legends, one thing I have come to notice is that your skills as a player really need to incorporate using Champion Abilities. However, as a newcomer to League of Legends, you may not really know what Champion Abilities are. So, I wanted to give a brief introduction to League of Legends’ Champion Abilities in today’s post.
So, let’s take a look at what Champion Abilities actually are and how they work, shall we?
What Are Champion Abilities?
Honestly, whilst the name “Champion Abilities” sounds like something truly amazing and powerful, it is actually referring to the standard abilities that each “Champion” (or character) has. These abilities aren’t some hidden, end-game content like you would get in a console RPG such as Final Fantasy. Instead, the name is just the designated title for each skill and ability a character has.
So, yeah, if you were wondering what are champion abilities, they’re nothing special. With that out of the way, let’s look at how they work!
To begin with, you have Champion Kits. These typically follow a set structure of sorts; the “innate” that has no ranks, three standard (or basic) skills and then one single “ultimate” that has three ranks for you to work through. So, let’s take a little look at these, shall we?
- Innate – Available from the start of the game.
- These passively affect the Champion throughout an entire League of Legends match.
- Basic – Available from Level 1
- These can be controlled with Q, W and E, and are learnt by levelling up and improving your Champion.
- Ultimate – Available from Level 6
- Controlled by the R key, these are the strongest attacks for a Champion.
With the basic “kits” out of the way, let’s move on to Components. From my understanding, each skill or ability can feature at least one type of component. A component is basically a mechanic on how the skill works. For example, some skills need ammo to be used, whilst others may have a cooldown or other type of cost.
Therefore, it is really important to try and get your head around the various components. Doing this will help you better understand the way in which each ability and skill work. In turn, this will help you get better at playing League of Legends as well.
The final aspect of Champion Abilities is the various effects that the abilities have. Basically, each Champion Ability will provide a different type of effect that will help to change the outcome of that specific League of Legends match. Here are a few of the different effects available.
- Crowd Control
- Blinks and Dashes
Getting your head around how each of these different effect categories is imperative to improving how you play League of Legends.
And That’s All Folks
That was a very brief description of Champion Abilities within League of Legends. Getting a better understanding of how these abilities work can really help you play the game better which, naturally, will mean that you’ll end up enjoying League of Legends more as well.
